It’s the start of a new year and I think a lot of us were more than ready to see 2020 in the rear view mirror! While last year may have been full of unexpected surprises – good and bad – I think we can all agree that we’re happy to see it go.
Whether your 2020 was full of highs or lows, a new year brings a feeling of new possibilities to the forefront. One thing that last year taught us is to be more present and connected to the things that really matter most. Sticking with that refreshed mindset is something I strive for in my personal life and as a Northern Virginia Lifestyle Photographer.
Reflect and Plan
While I’m reflecting on last year and planning for the year ahead, I’m don’t really focus on resolutions. But, I do like to set intentions and goals for myself, family, and clients. For example, I really want to run a 5K in 30 minutes or less and I really want my dog to earn his Canine Good Citizen Certificate! I think that sometimes we can become overwhelmed by what we’re not getting accomplished in a given day. As moms, our to-do list feels like it is always set on triage mode. Setting smaller, achievable goals are meaningful because they give us quicker wins and create mental space to achieve more. A refreshed mindset makes us better parents, spouses, and connectors!
Connect More
One of the main positives for pandemic life has been a somewhat forced focus on what matters most – quality time with our family. This is something from last year that I definitely want to keep growing! The most wonderful part of being a Northern Virginia Lifestyle Photographer is being there to capture your family’s beautiful connection with one another. The more you feel it, the more I feel it and it is right there for me to catch it. This was especially true with the L family. The genuine joy and love they share flowed throughout their session and it was hard to even choose favorites!
Dealing with Setbacks
2021 may not have ushered in quietly, but that doesn’t have to change our focus. Whether you have big goals or small, just remember that even the tiniest bit of progress is still progress. So if you don’t do what you set out to do that day or week, hit that mental reset button and just keep going. We’ve got this! Whether you are someone who sets resolutions, goals, or something else – what are you looking forward to accomplishing this year?
I have loved watching this family grow since their maternity session in 2019.
